I was very excited to see a new pet shop open within a few miles of my house... Jack's Aquariums & Pets. It's a regional chain with 29 locations. So I paid a visit on my way home from work today to check it out. What a disappointment. Their fish selection was inferior to Petsmart and their plant selection consisted of 1 ragged jungle val and 1 ragged Amazon sword. The prices were out of this world high...a good 50% higher than Petsmart. The Pros are that they have a good selection of quality equipment and supplies and their employees are very attentive. If I ever need anything like a heater in an emergency, I'll probably go back. Otherwise, it's back to Petsmart and online for me.

Hell, you could build those, show her how to get fish, and make her the exclusive distributor of your guppies. Before you know it, you're buying her out and becoming the most successful LFS in Ole Miss. Sounds like a plan to me.

Glad you're having fun with it. Of course, I don't know the lady but, it sounds like you could really help her grow the business. Maybe she'd be willing to let you do your online fish sales idea out of the shop. Just a thought. Knowledge and sweat equity can be very valuable to someone who doesn't have one or the ability to do the other.

We have been talking about creating a site but I'm afraid all I know how to do is facebook . Her husband wants her to let me run th store completly , I'm all for that idea but she wants to remain in control wich I understand but at the sme time theirs things involveing the animals care that I should be in control of such as lighting with reptiles and food additives that arent seen as a requirment . Calcium is very much a requirment with repti's just as a "UVB" bulb is and neither of wich is being used . I have got things turning in the right direction though she wants to be a good animal keeper I know she loves them its just the not knowing is all .

By educating her on the best ways to handle the livestock and doing it in a way that is economical, I'm sure you'll get her agreement. Being upfront about it and asking her opinion while presenting your ideas should make her feel in control. In the end, it might be a case of doing the best you can within her limitations. That's usually the way it is in business.
