I thought this would get some attention , I woke up this morning to see my son had made a change to the new oscar tank . He took it upon himself to add a buddy for his "Bob" , he put "Alpha" ( betta) in with the little oscar !! I was feeding and noticed that they were together and freaked out instantly . But started watching and still am , they seem to like each others company . My betta is very communal strange really hes not at all aggressive and the oscar is very young so that may be the factors involved but right now they are good together Alpha has the top of the tank and Bob has mid to bottom . I am leaveing the pair together for a day or so kinda experamental to see how it plays out but I am keeping a strict watch and prepaired to seperate them at any moment . The betta had rasbora's in his tank and did great with them but an oscar is not a rasbora , and really im worried about thw bettas safty more than the oscars . Has anyone else ever had a strange community ? Taboo mix of fish that worked together like this ?

I don't think you have to worry too much about Oscars unless they can suck the entire fish in, not fin nippers. I've seen some pretty wild combinations in public places like doctor offices and libraries (yes, I've been inside of a library, jerks). Sometimes it seems like God protects the ignorant.

Lol , y'all aint right lol . As for the tank mates well the betta decided he didnt want company anymore and charged the oscar ..gills streched out and fins up the whole nine yards ya know how they get , well he charged the oscar and well the oscar didnt run like the betta was aparently thinking he would lol cause the betta ran smooth into him head on and kinda just bounced off knocked back a few and turned an swam off . The oscar didnt give chase and hasnt went after him to carry it on and the betta has decided that he will allow the oscar another day and perhaps the bottom of the tank now lol . But thats the only news so far . One more show of aggression though and they get seperated .

Bob's just thinking that one of these days his mouth is going to be big enough and then, Yum, no more Alpha.

Lol , Frank I do believe your right . Last night when I got home my wife said their was another incadent , this time bob turned and ran from alpha but she said that alpha had gotten sneaky he was sneaking up behind bob and bitting his butt ! So now when alpha goes to bottom bob gives him more space . I got my return today so a new upgrade is in order for my tanks lol And an big african tank is on the list . Can I keep Oscars with julies and other tang lake cichlids ?

I don't know. It could be a little stressful for them and for you to watch.
