Just started to Break down my empty 15gallon tank in order to finally use it for a DP tank! Looking for ideas on layout, substrate, small plants etc. It's 24 x 12 x 12, and treated myself to some new LED lights for it yesterday :-) kitchen ones - MUCH cheaper, same job!
I'll throw up some pics later as on phone now and there's no way to use my Samsung dropbox here(hint hint).

Hey Nil, I been thinking about a puffer tank everyone I see is getting into the lil guys an they are so cool , but no stores around here for a hundred miles has any at all .... But I wanted to tell you about 3-d backgrounds , I saw one the other day it was kinda neat looked good to . It was home made out of a sheet of stirofoam they rubbed or cut lines in it to shape rocks and quick cretted it like stucko kinda , then cured it in a kiddie waddin pool one of them plastic jobs the lil kids play in . Just thought it was a cool idea . Looked really awsome when they finished it As for plants ''water lettuce'' is a real nice addition I hear about alot with puffer tanks . It maybe common but it still looks good lol

Yeah is a good plant but definitely looking for more rare plants so to speak, want my tank to look something out of the ordinary. With the new LEDs in a pretty small tank my growing potential should be quite good. And it's so easy to link more on as they just join to each other. So the light I could have could be phenomenal!
Juwel do a really good 3D background if you can get then there, but that's a little off topic....

You could go with an Indian bio type tank. I think some of the crypts are from India as are the puffers. Lots of hiding places and plants. It seems they can be hard to feed. I have seen references to small snails and frozen blood worms as being their favorites.

Oh I know about their feeding! They can be a nightmare! Most Won't accept frozen, especially at first and are only interested in live worms etc. But there's quite a lot of options out there to feed them with. And I'm also thinking about nipping to pets at home and picking up a 15 litre tank to use to breed snails as these are a firm favourite. You know anything about breeding these? What it would require etc.
And that's a brilliant idea, especially I want plants that are different. I can't remember the name of the river now the DPs are from, but I'm sure it will have a few good options. I hope anyway ani like this idea!

Charlie, how do you raise your snails ? It's funny how if you want them it's a chore and if you don't it's a curse.
